GROUP 1 HOPE DOING HER FAMILY PROUD

Llanacord (NZ) (Contributer {Ire}) added domestic and Australian black-type honours to her family roll of honour last season and at Hastings on Saturday she has the opportunity to make another impact at Group 1 level.

Bred by Mapperley Stud’s Simms Davison and Judy Hewitt, Llanacord will step out in the G1 Livamol Classic and, after rushing home late for seventh over a mile in the G1 Windsor Park Plate, she will appreciate the rise to 2000 metres.

Victory would also double Mapperley stallion Contributer’s (Ire) Group 1 tally following the victory last term of his son Lion’s Roar (NZ) in the Randwick Guineas.

“He’s doing a good job and getting winners on a regular basis. He’s got some nice horses here and in Australia. We lifted his fee from NZ$10,000 to NZ$22,000 and he’ll serve a full book of 100 this year,” Davison said.

Llanacord won the G3 Lowland S. as a 3-year-old and was third in the G1 New Zealand Oaks before she finished runner-up in the G3 South Australian Classic before a well-deserved break.

She is trained by Stephen Nickalls, who shares in the ownership with his mother Dianne and step-father Kevin Hopson.

“There was nothing wrong with Llanacord, she was a big, late-maturing type. She got passed in at Karaka and Kevin really liked her and asked what we wanted for her. I said NZ$15,000 and he said no worries so she was sold,” Davison said.

“Before Llanacord came out, the mare had a Shamexpress filly that we gave away on Gavelhouse for NZ$2100, the trainer of Llanacord bought her. He obviously knew Llanacord was going to be okay so there’s a few people done well out of the family.”

Meanwhile, Llanacord’s unraced 3-year-old sister Supertremendous (NZ) has found her way to Victoria.

“She was passed in at the yearling sale and she was sold privately out of the paddock and Paul Preusker has got her, she was another cheap horse,” Davison said.

Llanacord is a daughter of the winning Golan (Ire) mare L’Accord (NZ), who was offered at the New Zealand Bloodstock Broodmare Sale by Windsor Park Stud and purchased by Davison for NZ$26,000.

She is out of a half-sister to the G1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas winner Ad Alta (NZ) (Kenfair {NZ}) and the Listed Rotorua S. winner Posing (NZ) (Truly Vain), dam of the G2 Empire Rose S. winner Zanna (NZ) (Pentire {GB}).

“I bought the mare and Judy was the under-bidder. I didn’t know her then and wandered over and had a yarn with her and she ended up taking 50 per cent,” Davison said.

“The mare’s got a belting Time Test colt at foot and she’s due to foal to Contributer at the end of October and will be going back to him.

“In the future, she will go to another sire and hope we get a filly to keep and then we can at some stage breed her back to Contributer.”

All four of L’Accord’s foals to race have been successful, including Ninetysevenemperor (NZ) (Thorn Park) and Bullish Luck (NZ) (Paco Boy {Ire}) who were multiple winners in Singapore, while Accordingly (NZ) (Ocean Park {NZ}) has won three times for Ballarat trainer Nigel Blackiston.
