TRANS TASMAN DOUBLE FOR CONTRIBUTER

After two impressive trial victories, Follow Your Dreams made his race day debut in the 800m 2-year old event at Riccarton and put on a dazzling display to win the South Island’s first 2year-old race of the season.

The talented colt sat three-wide outside the leader before exerting his dominance over the field in the final 100m to draw out and score comfortably by a margin of 2 lengths.

Trained by Kenny Rae and Krystal Williams-Tuhoro, the son of Contributer had impressed connections from day one and the plan was to bring him down South to target the two year-old features over the Spring Carnival.

“I was a little bit nervous as we have such a high opinion of him,” Rae said.

“I had hoped I was right as he has a lot of ability and a great temperament.

“He’s very good and right from the moment we broke him in, we knew he had ability”

“I was taken with him after we had bought him, I paid up for the Karaka Million just a few weeks later”

Follow Your Dreams will continue on his South Island campaign and target the Listed Welcome Stakes (1000m) during Cup week.

Bred by Kevin Hickman and sold under the Valachi banner, Follow Your Dream was purchased by Rae at the 2020 NZB Yearling Sales for $24,000. Out of the O’Reilly mare Dare to Dream, this colt is from the same family as Gr.1 Flight Stakes winner Danglissa.

LION"S ROAR ON TRACK FOR GR.1 TARGET

A late withdrawal from the Gr.3 Gloaming stakes last weekend, promising 3 year-old Contributer colt Lion’s Roar was back at the races on Saturday to continue on his spring campaign.

On the back of 2 impressive victories and a 2nd placing to boom horse Mo’unga, the punters were quick to support him and installed him as a short priced $1.60 favourite.

Stepping up in trip for his first race above 1800m, he made light work of his rivals indicating he was right on track for his main target the Gr.1 Spring Champion Stakes.

“He’s been flying the flag for Contributer in Australia which is fantastic for the stallion. He’s been winning his races with authority and could have been unbeaten if he didn’t bump into Mo’unga” said Stud Master Simms Davison

“I can’t wait until he gets out to the 2000m, he looks spot on to tackle the Gr.1 Spring Champion Stakes next week”

Trained by John O’Shea, the colt has been an absolute professional winning 3 of his 4 career starts. Bought at the 2019 NZB Yearling Sale by Champion Thoroughbreds for $65,000, his connections look to have a special talent on their hands.
