YOUNG GUN STALLIONS ON SHOW AT THE WEEKEND
Our ‘Young Gun’ stallions Contributer and Complacent both had impressive winners in Australia over the weekend as their first crop of 3 year-old’s get warmed up for their spring campaigns.
Lion’s Roar, an impressive 2 year-old winner on debut for the John O’Shea team put his hand up for some of the spring staying features with a dominant victory at Kembla Grange. Stepping up to the mile for the first time he was strong through the line clearing out to win by 2 lengths.
Lion’s Roar first up run this spring was a gallant 2nd behind boom horse Mo'unga who only moments earlier bolted in at Rosehill to win the Listed Dulcify Stakes. On the back of that result the John O’Shea stable had massive confidence that he was ready to show his best second-up.
First out the gates, he settled comfortably out front and never looked in doubt throughout the race as he registered his 2nd win from only 3 starts. A replica of his sire Contributer, he is a strong robust type who will get better with more racing.
Calm Seeker, a $170,000 NZB Ready to Run Graduate was back to winning ways with an emphatic victory on Saturday. Trained by Matthew Kropp, he is building a solid record winning 2 of his 3 starts up in Queensland.
Settling towards the rear of the field, Calm Seeker waited patiently at the back before unleashing a devastating sprint to reel in his opposition with relative ease. He is a progressive horse and has the talent to take him to some nice middle distance races later in the spring.
The breeding season is now in full swing but it's not too late to book your mare into these exciting young sires. It's the perfect year to send your mare as if they continue to produce the results on the racetrack, their offspring will be in high demand.
