It is with great regret that we announce the devastating and sudden passing of Mapperley Stud stallion Atlante. A Gr.1 winning son of Fastnet Rock, Atlante was just 6 years-old and was nearing the end of his second season at stud.
“He was a beautiful strong horse who was admired by everyone and will be sorely missed” said Simms Davison
The exciting arrival of an outstanding first crop of foals this spring was proving promising for his future as a successful sire and his legacy will no doubt live on through the two crops of foals he will have produced.
Impeccably bred, Atlante was always destined for success and his class was recognised early on when he caught the eye of astute bloodstock agent Bruce Perry. Purchased for $200,000 from the Lyndhurst Farm 2012 Ready to Run draft for renowned owner Lib Petagna, Atlante was a racehorse of his generation.
Under the guidance of the team at Baker Racing Atlante won the Gr.1 NZ Two Thousand Guineas and Listed Canterbury Stakes before crossing the ditch to take on the Aussies. He opened his Australian campaign with a close 2nd to prolific galloper Dissident in the Gr.2 Hobartville Stakes before running down multiple Gr.1 winners Lucky Hussler and Trust in a Gust to win the Listed Drummond Golf Stakes.
Atlante was retired soon after and settled into stud life at Mapperley Stud in 2015.
