With world-champion jockey Hugh Bowman in the saddle, Group One mare Thee Auld Floozie turned her season around in style with a successful defence of her Gr. 2 Westbury Classic title at Ellerslie.

The six-year-old was given a perfect ride by Bowman, sitting just behind the leaders before angling into clear air 200 metres from home. Bowman gave her time to balance up, then drove her home over the top of the leaders.

The Mapperley Stud graduate enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2016-17, winning five races including the the Gr. 1 Thorndon Mile and the Gr.2 Westbury Classic and the Listed J Swap Sprint. This now takes her record to 11 wins from 25 starts, earning NZ$528,360 in prizemoney.
