We are thrilled to announce that Mapperley Stud will stand Summer Passage, a Gr.1 winning son of Snitzel. Securing a Gr.1 winning son of the hottest sire in Australia is a huge boost for the New Zealand breeding industry and an exciting addition to our stallion roster. Summer Passage will stand for $8000 + gst in his first season at stud.
He was a fast, precocious 2 year-old who competed at the highest level in Australasia throughout his career. A stunning looking juvenile, he sold for $800,000 at the 2016 Inglis Easter yearling sales.
“He was a standout for us at the sales. He had everything we look for in a yearling, the perfect confirmation, excellent attitude, strong, muscular, an all-round natural athlete” said Lance O’Sullivan
He burst onto the scene with a dynamic victory in the Listed Matamata Slipper. He then went into the Gr.1 Sistema Stakes as a short-priced favourite and proved he was top class when he beat a strong field with relative ease. As the dominant 2year-old colt in New Zealand, an Australian trip was mapped out with the Gr.1 Sires Produce their main target.
Lining up against the top 2year-olds in Australia, he showed his blistering speed to kick away at the 300m mark before finishing a close second to Invader. Trapeze Artist finished 3rd to complete a historic 2yo trifecta for Snitzel.
The form he was showing at home as an early 3yo was impressive enough to send him straight to Australia for a tilt at their 3year-old spring features. He was impressive in the Gr.3 Guineas Prelude at Caulfield when he led a quality field of gallopers into the home straight and fought on gallantly to finish 2nd, beating Kementari into third.
Stud Master Simms Davison said “I’ve been on the lookout for a fast, precocious horse with 2 year-old form, he showed his quality on the track winning the Gr.1, he’s got tremendous speed, he’s a horse that ticks all the boxes”
“Being the first son of Snitzel to stand in New Zealand, he is going to command a lot of attention. Snitzel is dominating the stallion ranks in Australia, he is the leading producer of 2yos, 3yos and is running away with the general premiership for the 3rd time”
