Star of Bombay announced herself as a serious filly after blitzing her rivals by 4 lengths at Te Rapa on Sunday. The daughter of Atlante showed early speed and jockey Craig Grylls settled her nicely just outside the leader before she exerted her dominance over the concluding stages. Her win was visually impressive with big margins back to the rest of the field but the style of her victory was backed up with the clock, a sizzling 1200m in 1.09.88. Purchased by David Ellis at the 2018 NZB Ready to Sale for $50,000, the filly breezed up like she had a tonne of quality and now she is putting it all together on the racecourse. Trainer Jamie Richards has been patient with her and it is starting to pay off with possible group targets ahead of her in the Summer.
Star of Bombay is the first foal out of the race-winning Starcraft mare Astardia. Her full-sister went through the 2019 Ready to Run Sale and was purchased by Australian trainer Tim Donnelly. Mapperley Stud has retained the Yearling Filly by their Gr.1 winning sire Complacent and will eventually add her to their racing team.
