ATLANTE LEAVING HIS MARK ON THE INDUSTRY

Atlante has been firing on all cylinders with a number of winners over the summer period highlighted by Star Of Bombay’s brilliant win in the Mufhasa Stakes at Ellerslie.

His 3year-old crop has had a brilliant run of results in the last few weeks with Star of Bombay, Callsign Mav, Our Alley Cat, Peperrello, Carlingford Bay and Wild West all registering impressive wins. The style of some of these victories have enabled trainers to target stakes races with their in-form gallopers and this weekend sees three of them lining up in the Gr.2 Wellington Guineas.

Star of Bombay is back to compete against the boys where she has proved competitive in the past running 3rd behind star colts Dragon Leap and Riodini in the Gr.2 Auckland Guineas. She is coming off a dynamic victory two weeks ago in the Mufhasa Stakes and will go into the race as one of the leading chances for the team at Te Akau Racing.

Callsign Mav was back to his best when winning a 3year-old handicap beating a talented field which included Australian Gr.2 Ming Dynasty winner Quick Thinker. Trained by John Bary he goes back to stakes grade after running bold races in the Gr.1 2000 Guineas and the Levin Classic.

Our Alley Cat also lines up in a stakes race for the first time this weekend after registering successive victories, her most recent one by an impressive 3.5 lengths at Matamata.

Atlante is proving to be a great loss to our industry; he has had 19 runners to the track in New Zealand with 2 of them going on to win at stakes level. That’s an impressive 10.5% stakes winners to runners!

Best of Luck to all the connections involved this weekend.
