ELIZABETH ROSE FIRST TASTE OF STAKES SUCCESS

Promising staying mare Elizabeth Rose tasted stakes success for the first time winning the Sothys Spring Classic on a stunning day of racing at Riccarton Park. Stepping up to 2000m for the first time this preparation, the daughter of Contributer was strong late to fight off Campionessa to land a valuable black-type victory.

Campionessa, another daughter of Contributer was brave in defeat coming from back in the field to make it a notable stakes quinella for the son of High Chaparral. Contributer continues to build on his impressive resume as a sire with this result lifting his record to 8 individual stakes performers from 86 runners.

Shane Kennedy & Anna Furlong, the trainers of Elizabeth Rose were ecstatic with the win and were thrilled to get the result for their good client Kevin Hickman and his close group of friends.

“It was a great win, she showed tremendous fight the last 100m, she’s so tough and just loves it at Riccarton” said Anna Furlong

“She always had the talent, a little bit of time on her side has really helped her this season”

“She’s got that black-type victory to her name now, so job done. It will all be about placing her correctly from now on. There are some nice targets for her coming up.”

“It’s great training for Kevin, it was really special having all his good friends on track to celebrate the victory”

Bred and raised by Valachi Downs, Elizabeth Rose takes her record to 4 wins from 16 starts with a further 7 minor placings to her name. Out of the Fasliyev mare Scarlett Queen, she is a half-sister to the stakes winner Emerald Queen and the stakes performed Red Shift.
