Promising juvenile Leedox showed his brilliance winning the Listed Futurity Stakes for 2 year-olds at only his 2nd career start. Lining up in the only stakes race on the New Zealand programme for trainer Andrew Forsman, jockey Ryan Elliott landed Leedox into the trailing position and angled him out one off the fence to launch a sustained sprint to win the 1400m event at Pukekohe Park.
“That was a super win as he was very professional in the way he took the gap in the straight and put in over the closing stages,” Forsman said.
“He will more than likely go for a spell now as there isn’t a lot around for him and he still has plenty of developing to do. If he can improve over that break, then we may have a smart three-year-old on our hands.”
Raised and grazed on the rolling hills of Mapperley Stud, Leedox is by first season sire Time Test and the win gave the highly performed son of Dubawi his first Southern Hemisphere stakes winner. Out of the O'Reilly mare Bella Carolina, Leedox is the 2nd stakes winner for the young mare who has only produced 6 foals to date. Bella Carolina's first foal was the Listed Wellesley Stakes winner Tennessee who also ran 4th in the Gr.1 Diamond Stakes as a juvenile.
Sold through the Mapperley Stud draft at the 2021 NZB yearling sales, Leedox was purchased by Bruce Perry Bloodstock on behalf of his long-term Lib Petagna.
"We are thrilled for both Lib (Petagna) and Bruce (Perry), they have been massive supporters of our industry and it's great to see them get a result like this" said Simms Davison
"He was a lovely yearling, he looked the part up there with his rock star looks and he was the highest priced Time Test yearling at the sale.
