MAPPERLEY EXCITED FOR THE START OF THE SEASON

It is full steam ahead for Mapperley Stud going into this year’s breeding season. Buoyed by their recent investment in the stallion market, they have joined forces with Windsor Park Stud and Lion Rock Bloodstock to secure Gr.1 winning son of sire sensation Deep Impact - Profondo

By the legendary Deep Impact and out of a 2 year-old stakes winning daughter of Redoute’s Choice, he took center stage as a A$1,900,000 sales topper at the 2020 Magic Millions yearling sale.

He was then a brilliant winner on debut and went on to win at the highest level in just his third start in the Gr.1 Spring Champion Stakes, toying with his rivals in what is considered to be a traditional stallion-making race. Previous winners include Champion sire Savabeel and Dundeel, while newly crowned champion sire Proisir finished 2nd in the race.

Profondo will stand at Windsor Park Stud for an introductory fee $17,500+gst and had the full book sign up moments after his service fee was announced

“Profondo has been a hit ever since we announced he was retiring to stud in New Zealand. The demand for his services blew us away and we are thrilled to have secured such an exciting stallion prospect for New Zealand breeders” said stud master Simms Davison

August marks another exciting milestone for Mapperley Stud where they will be welcoming the first foals of their resident sire Armory who stands for a fee of $10,000+gst

“His first foals are not too far away now, it’s such an exciting time for a stud master as there is lot of work that goes in up to this point but we’re confident that he is going to leave nice forward, athletic types just like himself” added Davison

“We were really happy with the level of support he received in his first season at stud. Breeders gravitated to his high-class group one race performances to make him the most popular first season sire last year”

“He’s priced perfectly in the market and there has been good support for him again this season. Once he has a few foals on the ground and we can market their quality, he’ll cover another really good book of mares”

While taking on two new stallions in consecutive years is no small commitment, the deeds of Mapperley Stud’s longest serving stallion Contributer ($18,000+gst) have been reassuring and the performances of his offspring on the track last season have been excellent.

“Contributer has had a great season on the racetrack, he has sired 5 stakes winners from only 44 runners to the track, add in another 5 stakes performers, they are some pretty impressive statistics. More than 1 in 5 runners have achieved black-type for their breeders” Davison said.

“He has his biggest crop of 3 year-olds coming through this season since his debut crop, and his yearling crop is his biggest and is by far his best quality wise, so we are really looking forward to seeing these bigger numbers hit the track”

Mapperley Stud’s roster is bolstered by young sires - Puccini ($3,000+gst) and Savile Row ($2,500+gst) - who offer breeders affordable access to some influential sire lines.
