PROMISING COMPLACENT WINS AGAIN IN AUSTRALIA

Exciting staying prospect Wascaly put on an impressive display on Sale Cup day winning easily over 1600m. The lightly-tried son of Complacent brought up his 2nd career victory from only 3 starts for Cranbourne based trainer Smiley Chan.

Building an impressive race record in Australia, Wascaly won with authority on debut running out a 3 and half length victor at Wangaratta. Stepping up in grade and to the mile at his next start, he was brave in defeat at Cranbourne running a strong 2nd in a race where the race pattern didn't suit.

At Sale, Jockey Ben Allen took all the luck out the equation and positioned Wascaly on a good speed throughout the race and the horse was able to kick clear over the final 200m for a convincing victory.

"He jumped quite well, we flowed across in our own time, he got into a beautiful rhythm and saved all his energy. He was pretty good today" said jockey Ben Allen.

"I reckon he's still a prep away, but he feels like he's a very nice horse. He'll only get better with more experience"

Trainer Smiley Chan was impressed with the toughness of his horse after he had to do a bit of work from a wide barrier and was confident he had a progressive stayer in the making.

"I was worried with the wide barrier, but (Ben Allen) did a very good job from out there. It was a really good ride today" said Smiley Chan

"After he won 1st up, he was really tough up on pace 2nd up, I think he is the future of my stable"

"His pedigree says he can stay, his confirmation says he can stay, and the work at home shows me he will be a strong stayer"

Out of the winning Giant's Causeway mare Goolagong, she has produced 4 winners from 4 runners. Grand dam Maroochydore (Danehill) is a stakes winner in Ireland and has produced the European stakes performed Marksmanship.
