UNBEATEN CONTRIBUTER FILLY HARLOW MIST WINS THE OAKS PREVIEW

Unbeaten Contributer Filly Harlow Mist showed her staying credentials winning the Kennedy Oaks Preview at Flemington on Sunday. Stepping up to 1800m for the first time, jockey Michael Dee slotted her in behind the leaders and surged to the lead early on in the straight to run out a convincing winner.

Trainer John Sargent has again unveiled another VRC Oaks prospect after the 3 year-old filly guaranteed herself a start in the group one fillies classic at the beginning of November.

“It was a big jump up today as she’s been winning in the country. She’s got a decent sized heart. Today was a fork in the road as to whether we wait for autumn or carry on with her, but after that we will” Sargent said.

“She’s bred to stay and she finished off nicely at her other starts”

Harlow Mist made it three wins from three starts, with her first two victories in New South Wales.

Sargent now intends to run her in the Gr.2 Wakeful Stakes and Gr.1 VRC Oaks during Melbourne Cup week.

“She will keep on improving” he said. “She’ll get the trip and have a short break and then run in the Wakeful and the Oaks”

“I saw her in New Zealand at the sales, She is from a very good staying family there and she is by Contributer who was a very good horse. Onwards and upwards with her now”

Jockey Michael Dee gave her a glowing endorsement and said she had room for improvement going forward as she didn’t know how to properly extend when she hit the front.

“It was a nice win, she had good gate speed, lobbed into a good position, got on the outside and hit the front early on” said Dee

“I felt she was doing it pretty comfortably, certainly felt like that their was more there if she was challenged” he added

Harlow Mist was a $85,000 yearling purchase by Tri Colours Racing & Syndications out of the Wentwood Grange draft at the NZB Yearling Sales at Karaka.
