Following Brutal's dynamic victory in the Gr,1 Doncaster Handicap, an outstanding weekend for Mapperley Stud was capped off with Rattan (Savabeel – Grand Princess) winning the Gr.2 HKJC Sprint Cup at Sha Tin.
Jockey Chad Schofield positioned Rattan behind the two highly fancied pacemakers Beat the Clock and Mr Stunning. Receiving a beautiful run in transit he was able to pull out three wide and produce a finishing burst over the top of them to win his first race at group level. A winner of 7 of his 21 starts, he has amassed over HK$11m in prize money since being sold up to Hong Kong as a trial winner.
Rattan was purchased by Bruce Perry at the 2015 New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Sale for $150,000. Rattan is a son of the Last Tycoon mare Grand Princess – also the dam of stakes winners Captain’s Command and Her Royal Highness.
