Atlante, the late son of Fastnet Rock sired another stakes winner today when Star of Bombay won the Listed Mufhasa Stakes at Ellerslie. The talented 3YO filly has been handled brilliantly by the team at Te Akau stud and with a patience approach she is now a winner of 3 from 5 starts.
Her last start 3rd in the Gr.2 ARC Auckland Guineas behind leading colts Dragon Leap and Riodini gave the team at Te Akau extreme confidence that she would be ultra competitive back against her own sex. Jockey Craig Grylls slotted her just off the speed and got her to relax brilliantly before she was asked for an effort, and she let down like she was a filly going places.
After the convincing victory she is likely to head down to the Gr.2 Wellington Guineas and have another crack at the boys. Her record suggests she is able to race competitively at this level against the boys and the two week gap into the race will suit her programming.
Raised and grazed on the rolling hills of Mapperley Stud, Star of Bombay is the first foal out of the Starcraft mare Astardia. Her full-sister was sold at the 2019 Ready to Run sale to Australian Trainer Tim Donnelly for $37,500.
Mapperley has retained her yearling half-sister by Complacent and she will join the racing team in the coming months. She went back to Complacent on the back of the great type she left in 2018 and has a stunning Complacent colt at foot.
