Mapperley Stud’s Star Graduate Brutal has been retired to stud and will stand at Newgate Farm in the Hunter Valley this Spring.

Born and raised on the rolling hills at Mapperley Stud, Brutal was an eye-catching colt and the team at Hawkes Racing bought him for $220,000 at the 2017 Premier Yearling Sale at Karaka.

Brutal shot straight onto the radar winning his first 3 starts impressively, 2 of them at stakes level. The team at Hawkes Racing had a big wrap on the unbeaten colt heading into his Autumn 3 year-old campaign and he repaid that faith winning the Gr.1 Doncaster Handicap against the older horses.

Leading into his emphatic Doncaster victory, he ran a brilliant 2nd to wonder mare Winx in the Gr.1 George Ryder. He went onto win the Gr.2 Premier Stakes over 1200m in his final campaign and heads to stud with an impressive record of 5 wins from 10 starts.
