Campionessa trounces her rivals at Te Rapa under a confident ride by Kossi Asano. The talented daughter of Contributer was back into the winners circle after winning her first two starts of her career in impressive fashion.
The team at Te Akau Racing had Campionessa primed for a big effort after a couple of encouraging lead up runs in higher grades and the mare was able to let down with a sharp turn of foot to win easily by 2 lengths.
Born and raised at Mapperley Stud, she travelled over to the Gold Coast sale where DC Ellis went to $60,000 to secure the Contributer filly. After her travels to the sunshine state, she would return to the Matamata stable located just down the road from her birthplace.
Campionessa is out of the O’Reilly mare Bella Carolina making her a half-sister to the Wellesley Stakes winner Tennessee. A filly with a strong pedigree, her connections will be looking forward to getting her to some black type races this preparation.
